Ferroelectric-RAM (FRAM / F-RAM/ FeRAM )

FRAM is alternative non-volatile memory technologies, it offer the same functionality as Flash memory by recording bits on a magnetic surface.

FRAM is similar in construction to DRAM but uses a ferroelectric layer instead of a dielectric layer to achieve non-volatility. Or a memory that uses ferroelectric film as a capacitor for storing data.

FRAM combines the best of RAM and ROM into a single package that outperforms other nonvolatile memories with remarkably fast writes, high endurance for number of rewrites and ultra-low power consumption. It reduces the burden of OEM (original equipment manufacturer) development because there is no need to differentiate between RAM and ROM

In spite of its name, ferroelectric RAM does not contain iron. The ferroelectric name was chosen because the hysteresis characteristic of the capacitor's charge is similar to ferromagnetic materials. It is somewhat misleading because the capacitor is not made of iron (ferrous), and it is not influenced by magnetic fields. Today’s FRAM uses thin film of Lead Zirconate Titanate [Pb(Zr, Ti) O3], commonly referred to as PZT; other materials are being considered. The main developer of FRAM is Ramtron International.

To date, the commercial FRAM devices have been produced at 350 nm and 130 nm. Early models required two FRAM cells per bit, leading to very low densities, but this limitation has since been removed.

Polarization in a Crystal
FRAM uses a ferroelectric capacitor composed of a crystal made up of lead and oxygen atoms plus zirconium or titanium; these crystals have two stable states. When an electric field is applied, the Zr/Ti (zirconium or titanium) atoms in the PZT change polarity, thereby producing a binary switch. The read circuit detects the polarity of the atom as a difference in voltage, which determines the 0 or 1.








Reliability:
The following tests, per JEDEC industry standard test specifications for non-volatile memory, guarantee 10 years of operation and data retention at 85°C.

Security:
FRAM is more resistant to data corruption via electric fields, radiation, etc. also, the extremely fast write times and the small 130 nm process node make it more resistant to physical attacks. Furthermore, FRAM’s much lower power consumption arguably makes it more difficult to attack with differential power analysis techniques.

Following are the documents uploaded by the final year project FYP committee, on the same date posted here. You can use these files to prepare yourselves in advance, which is not only a good idea but many will find it a compulsory idea. It comes from personal experience that you will be on a very short leash once your last (8th) semester begins.

Don't wait for the notice, and once the papers (exams) are finished for the 7th semester, get started on your posters. Because after the 8th semester begins you will have only two weeks approximately before FYP poster presentation.

FYP Monthly Progress Report SSUET

Once your project is approved and you are underway to work on it, you will have to submit your monthly progress report begining by the month of March, that will be your first monthly progress report. Consider your Monhly progress being divided into series of 7 months, with May & June combined due to exams, upto October.

Visual Basic 6.0 Portable

The History of Visual Basic in short:

VB is predominantly derived from BASIC. Its first Version-1 came out in 1991, and subsequently the followup versions came upto 1998 with Version-6 as the last installment of its kind. The full support to VB6 ended in 2005, and the extended support to it ended in 2008.

After this, Visual Basic .NET (which came out in 2002) replaced the earlier versions so that it was not backward compatible and introduced the .NET framework as its working platform, this version is also known as VB7. The current stable version continuing this (.NET) chain of VB is Visual Basic 2008 (a.k.a (also known as) VB9.)



Portable Version:

Visual Basic 6 is small and convenient to get a hands-on experience for the beginners and newbies. Although not supported by Microsoft anymore, it can still be experimented with, and small semester projects can easily be deployed using this language.

The portable version of VB6 available here is only capable of making executable files, nonetheless which is definitely enough for small tasks / projects.


Note: Unzip or Unrar and open Vb6, and start your work right away.

FYP Proposal Interview

Final Year Project proposal interview will be scheduled relatively between first and second weeks of initial announcement of the proposal submission. The following documents will be posted by FYP committee for  FYP students to prepare themselves for the interview.

They will probably ask you to present them with convincing/appropriate reasons and facts so as to enable them to approve your project on concrete basis. If you give poor explainations or are unable to portray a good presentation, chances are likely that they would ask you to come up or add something new in your existing project or a totally new project altogether.
